Their work consists of coupling, uncoupling, and shunting wagons at railway stations and depots, a purely physical outdoor task. It is dangerous work that requires great manual strength, physical agility to get on and off trains, and direct visual coordination with the driver. No AI or mobile robotics technology currently exists in Spain capable of performing these maneuvers safely and cost-effectively in the real rail environment.
